Truth be told, being happy and staying positive in the midst of everything going on around you has a big effect on how you live your life. By setting aside your worries and fears life can feel more bearable. You may be wondering how you can possibly maintain a positive outlook during the chaotic times we find ourselves living in. It’s not always easy, but you CAN do it with a few lifestyle tweaks. Here are a few of my tried and true techniques for maintaining positivity through all situations:
Surround Yourself With Support
Instead of staying in the house or in the bed under the covers whenever you’re feeling down, make it a point to be around others. Accepting some of those virtual event invitations provides a new opportunity to make connections and even new memories. Share some laughs and smiles with other people can uplift your mood (and theirs too).
Give Yourself A Break
As women, we are often the fixers, planners, nurturers, and we put a lot of things before ourselves. Sis give yourself a break. Pamper yourself. Allow for some much-needed relaxation and rest. Do something nice for yourself because afterwards you’ll feel more relaxed and like a new woman.
Watch Your Alcohol Intake
Don’t overdo it with alcohol. Some people use alcohol as a way to self-medicate, numb the pain, and cope with what they are feeling. Alcohol is actually a depressant. Overdoing alcohol will make you feel worse by lowering your mood.
Exercise
When you exercise, happy hormones or endorphins are released. Doing a short 10 or 15- minute workout will help to get the endorphins flowing and improve your mood. It doesn’t have to be something boring; it could be anything you choose! Zumba, dancing, a spin class, kickboxing- you name it. Just get up and get moving!
Shift Your Focus
Despite whatever you’re going through, whatever challenge you’re facing, the good usually outweighs the bad. A great way to shift your mindset is to spend some time serving others. There’s so much need in the community and the world. You’ll be surprised how fulfilled and how at peace you will feel after you volunteer or complete a service project. Be the change you want to see in the world.
#FABSQUAD! Don’t let negativity pull you down. When you feel down, connect with others, give yourself a break, and shift your perspective by serving others.
