Over the years I’ve learned that one of the golden rules of entrepreneurship is to outsource anything that doesn’t require my expertise. There once was a time when I did all of the tasks in my wellness business because I was afraid that other people wouldn’t care about it as much as I do. There also was a time when I would not even consider leaving my laptop behind and going on a staycation. However, I had to realize that items like scheduling blogs, responding to emails, conducting research, creating graphics, and building sales pages don’t require my genius. My growth as an entrepreneur has also revealed that giving myself a break helps my business instead of harming it.
In order for my amazing community of women called the #FABSQUAD to make lasting changes in their lifestyle, they need ME to:
- plan and execute wellness events
- write best selling books
- launch a line of pharmacist approved supplements
- develop wellness inspired apparel
Doing all of those things to serve them requires that I give myself time to relax, tap into my creativity, and take a break.
Speaking of taking a break, I recently took an entire weekend off from all of my responsibilities. I handed over my dog mom and household duties to my husband and my business responsibilities to my assistant for the weekend while I enjoyed a solo staycation in Downtown Memphis. Instead of a hotel suite, I booked an adorable condo in my hometown of Memphis, TN. I explored attractions in the city that I hadn’t experienced before. I honestly forgot that I was not out of town.
Here are 4 Tips For A Fabulous #Staycation in Downtown Memphis:
Choose accomodations with a vibe- Your accomodations become the home base for your Downtown Memphis experience. There are plenty of options to fit your personality and budget. You can choose from boutique hotels, condos, loft style vacation rentals, or even an international hotel brand for your staycation.
Eat local- Memphis has an incredible food scene. Downtown is a foodie haven. There really is something for everyone. BBQ, soul food, creole, spicy fried chicken, and fine dining options are plentiful. Your tastebuds will not be bored here.
Shop local- Downtown Memphis has a thriving small business scene. You’ll be sure to find boutiques with unique clothing and accessories plus eclectic home decor with a Southern flair. This staycation was all about treating myself so that’s exactly what I did. These unique coasters and beautiful earrings went home with me.
Try something new- Take a step off the beaten path and explore some of the not so touristy attractions downtown. Schedule a tour of a distillery or brewery that is authentically Memphis. Consider visiting the Downtown Farmer’s Marlet like I did. It’s open for your enjoyment April-October.
Sleeping late, reading for leisure, going for walks, enjoying delicious cuisine, and shopping at local boutiques are just a few of the things that I enjoyed during my Downtown Memphis staycation.
Take my word for it. This staycation was just the break that I needed to reconnect with myself. When my weekend away was over, I returned home and to my business refreshed and relaxed. I felt excited and inspired to dive back into using my genius to add value to the lives of the women in my tribe. This may have been my first solo staycation, but it definitely won’t be my last.
