The Myth of “Fine”: Reclaiming Wellness Beyond the Hustle

Dr. Jamie HardyLifestyle

You’re doing all the things. Leading teams. Holding space. Making sure everyone and everything around you is thriving. Here’s the question National Wellness Month invites us to ask:

Are you really “fine” or just functioning?

Let’s get honest.
Wellness isn’t about what you do. Most importantly, it’s about how you feel while doing it.

Wellness isn’t a perfectly curated routine posted on social media or a perfectly balanced plate.

It’s your nervous system, not running on fumes.

Your boundaries hold firm when you need them.

Peace becomes your natural state, not a luxury you can’t afford.

Because here’s what doesn’t get said enough:
High-achieving women, especially those leading in boardrooms and family and community circles, are often praised for being unstoppable, even when they’re running on empty.

Just because you can do it all, doesn’t mean you should. And just because you look “fine,” doesn’t mean you feel well.

Starting this month, it’s time to rewrite the script. Let wellness be more than your occasional priority. Let it be your baseline.

Here are four powerful wellness shifts to protect your wholeness, not just your performance:

1. Stop Performing Wellness, and Start Living It

Wellness is about outcomes, not optics. Skip the pressure to “look like you have it all together” and start building rhythms that actually serve you. That might mean saying no. Taking a real lunch. Logging off when you’re tired, not when the inbox is clear.

2. Move Your Body, Not Just Your Calendar

Exercise isn’t another mindless checkbox to complete.  Reframe it so that it’s not punishment, or something that you dread and instead being one with your body. Whether it’s stretching between meetings, exercising before bed, or dancing in the living room, your body needs moments of joyful movement.

3. Make Space for Doing Nothing

Yes, doing nothing. Stillness is a wellness practice,  not a waste of time. Quiet moments help regulate your nervous system, sharpen your thinking, and soften the stress that builds behind your smile.

4. Choose Wholeness Over Hustle

The to-do list will always be there. Your wholeness? That’s sacred. Protect it by creating space to regularly check in with yourself:

  • How does my body feel today?
  • What do I need more of?
  • What’s draining me right now?

This kind of radical honesty is essential to your thriving..

Let this National Wellness Month be the moment you stop settling for “fine” and start choosing full-body, soul-deep wellbeing, without guilt and without apology.
